The Arizona Business and Liberty Experience Conference went down on Saturday, September 20, 2008. It went down well. First of all, the facilities of the Univerity of Advancing Technology were great. All the rooms we used had projectors that we could use. 3 classrooms with comfortable seating, and of a small enough size to allow the presenter to speak without shouting. The theater, which we were also allowed to use, had well designed acoustics, enabling a speaker to be heard all over the room, easily. In my previous blog I outlined what some of the presentations were. Some of them may be made available for others to use and, in the case of the one I did, may be modified and/or improved to suit your needs.
In addition to the rooms, we were allowed to use a hall and a tabled “commons” area for setting up Team and group areas. These were well made use of, with Ubuntu-Arizona taking over the hall, and PLUG and LOPSA and others holding the “commons” area. Lots of informal discussions took place at these areas, and lots of Ubuntu disks were distributed, along with fliers outlining teams/organizations and software.
But best of all were the fact that Ubuntu-Arizona LoCo members from all over the state could finally meet face to face, and the fact that we were working and interacting with other organizations from the state. Despite the serious job of promoting and presenting that we did, there was time for fun and casual talks. This is evident in the pictures some of us took (Link to Team pictures page).
I’ve got to say that, from my perspective, for a “first time out” this was a great success. And the next time should be even better. If you missed it, keep watching this blog. There will be others, and it’s worth the trip. We’ll be looking for you.
